A few weeks ago, the Community Resuscitation Team led a CPR training session for 30 pupils in year 13 at St. Ronan’s College, Lurgan. One of the pupils, Hollie Nelson, had reached out to us for help to have friends and pupils trained, with a very personal, inspirational and heartwarming reason. A few years ago, her father Ryan suffered an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest. Swift actions of both family and bystanders to call 999 and intervene immediately, meant that before ground and air ambulance arrival, Ryan was given every chance of survival. Amazingly, he made a full recovery. Hollie was just 13 at the time, yet her extremely emotional, personal journey drove her to try to ensure others are trained and ready to act if the need should arise. It was a pleasure to facilitate the session and meet Hollie, a true inspiration and proof that basic, vital skills can make the difference between life and death.
