Congratulations to Declan Mullen, who was recognised for Exceptional Service at 2026 Ambulance Leadership Awards Ceremony.
As an experienced ambulance service professional, he has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to front-line healthcare and leadership. Declan received the Exceptional Service in a Clinical Role: Non-Paramedic award at the 2026 Ambulance Leadership Awards Ceremony, in recognition of his dedication, leadership and commitment to supporting both patients and colleagues.
Declan began his career with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service in 2006, as an Ambulance Care Attendant (ACA). Through continued professional development and commitment to patient care, he progressed to the role of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). Since October 2019, he has served as an EMT Supervisor based in Strabane.
Throughout his career, Declan has consistently demonstrated clinical excellence while also playing a key role in supporting operational performance. In his supervisory role, he has worked to ensure KPI compliance while fostering a positive and supportive environment for staff.
Most recently, Declan played a central role in the successful delivery of a replacement ambulance station in Strabane. Working closely with internal teams and external contractors, he helped guide the project through to completion, ensuring collaboration and clear communication at every stage. Colleagues noted his proactive approach in addressing challenges as they arose, with Declan often dedicating personal time to help resolve issues and keep the project on track.
Declan’s contribution has been widely praised, with colleagues mentioning that he should be incredibly proud of the exceptional service he has delivered to the organisation and the leadership he continues to show.
