8th March 2024
My name is Lynne Charlton and I came to NIAS on a secondment opportunity in 2019 and loved it so much I applied for the Director of Quality, Safety and Improvement post which is the post I am in now.
On International Women’s Day I want to take the time to acknowledge all my female colleagues in NIAS that I am privileged to work alongside, learn from, laugh with and be inspired by every day.
Alongside Ruth Finn, our Assistant Director within the Directorate we have the privilege of leading a team of compassionate, determined, dedicated and credible woman within the QSI Directorate. Working in NIAS means that every day we see fine examples of leadership in woman, who somehow manage to work in often in very challenging circumstances ultimately providing care to our service users, either directly or indirectly, whilst at the same time caring for families and friends at home.
I have been fortunate throughout my nursing career in Northern Ireland and England to have many outstanding female role models and leaders who have mentored me and taught me to follow my passions, to constantly challenge myself and have given me the confidence to make decisions that I may not have otherwise taken. Most importantly they made me feel cared for and valued.
I would also like to use the platform of International Women’s Day to thank all of our wonderful male colleagues in NIAS, who support and encourage us in our roles every day and the woman in their lives at home. We cannot deliver the service we do every day without each other.
Those of you who know me also know that I love a calendar with quotes, the one I would like to share today is
She is a dreamer, she is a believer, she is a doer, she is an achiever and she is You!
Happy Women’s Day to you all!
