GoodSAM Responders
NIAS have been working in partnership with GoodSAM, to improve the chances of survival for people who experience a cardiac arrest, since July 2019. Currently in NI, you have a 1 in 10 chance of surviving an out of hospital cardiac arrest and our bystander CPR rate is approximately 60%. The NIAS & GoodSAM collaboration aims to increase these figures by alerting nearby trained Responders to those in cardiac arrest, to provide assistance until the ambulance service arrives.
The difference early CPR and defibrillation makes when someone is in cardiac arrest is crucial – that’s where you come in! If you have at least basic life support skills and are willing, in the event of a medical emergency to do CPR and use a defibrillator (if one is available), please download the GoodSAM Responder App today. You may be alerted when you are in the immediate vicinity of a cardiac arrest, so that you can start CPR in the critical minutes before the emergency services arrive.
