An out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) can change lives in an instant. For those who survive, and for the people who were there, the experience can stay with you long after the emergency has passed.
Sharing your story can be a powerful way to help others feel less alone. It can offer hope to survivors and families, recognise the people who stepped in to help, and remind communities that quick action can make all the difference.
Your experience may help someone understand the importance of recognising cardiac arrest, calling 999 straight away, starting CPR, and using a defibrillator if one is available. These actions can give someone the best possible chance of survival.
You do not need to have all the answers, and you can share as much or as little as feels right. Whether you want to talk about recovery, the people who supported you, the challenges you have faced, or what life looks like now, your voice matters.
For OHCA Survivors
If you have survived an OHCA, your story could bring reassurance and encouragement to someone at the beginning of their own recovery. It can help others see that there is life after cardiac arrest, while also raising awareness of the urgent care and support that survivors may need.
We would be honoured to hear from you.
For Bystanders Who Helped
If you called 999, started CPR, used a defibrillator, or supported someone during a cardiac arrest, your actions mattered. You may have helped give someone the chance to survive.
Many bystanders do not realise the impact they have had, and some may carry difficult feelings after an emergency. Sharing your experience can help others feel more prepared to act, show that ordinary people can make an extraordinary difference, and encourage more people to learn CPR.
Whether you acted alone, alongside others, or simply made the call for help, we would be grateful to hear your story.
Together, these stories can build understanding, inspire confidence, and help save more lives.
