“My name is Stella Simpson, and I joined Eastern Ambulance Service Trust in May ’94 at the age of 24. Direct entry into Emergency Tier which was a new approach by CAO Alan Murray. Bright green shirts and black trousers! The next year, we merged and NIAS was born.
I was based in Broadway for 9 years and then moved to Lisburn for the last 21 years.
A career as a paramedic has brought every emotion you can experience… but the most prominent one is happiness. A work family like no other, sharing good times and more often bad. The patients gave a job satisfaction that is rarely felt in other occupations outside of medicine and is a balm to all the loss and tragedy that is inevitable.
30 years on and I still love my job and see it as a privilege every day.”
